From the morning of April 7, 1944, Nazi-Fascist forces surrounded the Benedicta area and other local farmsteads. The area had become the headquarters of the partisan command of the 3rd Liguria Brigade in the spring of 1944. At various stages the Nazi-Fascists shot 147 partisans.
In 1996 the President of the Republic awarded the Province of Alessandria the Gold Medal of Military Valor for partisan activity, with a motivation that expressly refers to the Benedicta massacre as an emblematic event of the Resistance in our area
